Lemon Juice Remedies for Acne
Lemon juice is one of the most effective treatments of acne and its use is gaining popularity among the people. It helps in protecting the skin from the primary cause of acne. It is a naturally-occurring acidic peel that will help bring replenished skin cells to the surface. In helping dispose of dead skin, lemon juice helps protect against a primary cause of acne. Using lemon juice will dry the excess oils on the skin and help slough the dead skin cells off the skin's surface. Applied in a thin layer over the skin, the citric acid in the lemon juice would act as an acid peel though it may cause some skin redness and dryness.
Curing acne lesions is only part of the battle. Acne can leave discolored areas on the skin, which can be just as irritating to deal with as acne itself. These can be fortunately treated with lemon juice. Lemon juice has been used by skin care professionals for decades to create a lightening effect on the skin. The exfoliating effect it provides, as well as its skin tightening properties, helps make acne scars less noticeable. Drinking lemon juice or applying it topically or both, helps in reducing the scars and the blemishes. However, drinking lemon juice alone does not help in clearing acne. It only helps in cleansing the body system from within.
For the topical application, squeeze out the lemon juice in a bowl and soak it with some cotton. If it burns, then dilute it with some water and dab it on the infected area. Leave it overnight and rinse your face in the morning. If it burns too much then rinse it off after about 10 minutes. Lemon juice with rose water is the best for topical application. Dilute 50% of lemon juice into 50% of rose water and apply it on the infected area. For cleansing the body from within, dilute lemon juice into water and drink it. You can also squeeze the lemon into warm water and drink it. However, do not eat or drink for about half an hour, in order to let the lemon juice cleanse your system properly.
The use of lemon juice is accompanied by some side effects, though these side effects are not major. It can leave the skin very dry which may in turn make the skin more acne prone. After the application, some people might experience a slight sting, redness and irritation. It is recommended to discontinue the treatment, if you experience persistent irritation and redness every time you apply it.
